The meeting was attended by a large number of East End residents which was duly noted by the city representatives in
attendance. Councilman Stowe, Councilman Bramson, Noel Shaw, Fire commissioner Ray Kiernan, and Lt. Bongiorni were asked to
come to this meeting to answer questions about housing issues.President of EECA, Anne Guida once again appealed to city officials
to be more vigilant in answering housing complaints. She has asked the mayor to form a Task force last June and she repeated
this request at this meeting. The excuses that were presented were somewhat insulting and the general feeling among residents
was one of disappointment. The EECA was given excuses why the City of New Rochelle is unable to crack down on the housing
issues that are plaguing several cities. Other towns are taking very aggressive action while New Rochelle seems content
to let this situation get out of control. Mamaroneck has developed a Task force with great results. It was suggested that
a liason be assigned to correspond with the Building and Fire Departments and Lou Vaccaro kindly volunteered.
The meeting was going nowhere due to the lack of positive direction and it was suggested that all in attendance
meet again in September after more illegal housing situations are reported.
Councilman Noam Bramson is new to a portion of our neighborhood and he introduced himself and answered many
pertinent questions regarding New Rochelle. Questions about parking and the possibility of a strip club opening across from
New Roc were discussed.
This year the planters are being cared for by several neighbors. Thank you to all that volunteered for this time comsuming
task.
The next meeting will be on June 29th. It will be held in Halligan Hall at 7:30 pm and September's slate of officers
will be the topic.
